Author Topic: Terrain (OH stuff I JUST WENT THERE)  (Read 3650 times)

I'm not sure what you mean.
He means that everybody hates how people keep posting topics and complaining about how terrains and interiors were removed. They were out dated and they slowed down updates. For instance, the speed kart gamemode would have been harder to execute with terrains and interiors

But I'm not complaining about that...

People need to learn how to read.

It's a giant bandwagon, that's why.

anybody who did serious projects used slate.
slopes was for lazy tdms and gamemodes to be hosted on, as well as all other maps. the only truly cool thing about em was obstacle courses.

i prefer terrain and interiors to shaders
taking away all the maps, the ability to easily make large areas, and the interior isn't at all a fair trade for pretty shadows that only half the community can actually run

I honestly always hated maps.  I always thought they were ugly and that they dated Blockland and disliked how lazy people used them to get out of building cool things.

I never built a serious project in Bedroom or any other map, always used slate from the very beginning.

The only thing Maps were superior in was riding skis and vehicles. (which are tiny parts of gameplay in my opinion)

i never disliked maps when they existed on their own.
i preferred the idea of shaders over terrain when it was first introduced.
i still do.
that's just me, though.

because the community also wasn't aware that they inhibited development?

Oh boy... Another attempt.

you'd think developers would remove these problems at first instead of letting them accumulate and 'inhibit' more and more development. if these super slow terrain pieces made development 10x slower, why weren't they removed from the start?  i fully support the way people are voicing their opinions making these topics. this is what happens when you cut features that players are already accustomed to this far into a game's life. see: runescape wilderness riot

is it possible to ban people that are friendly with players but WILL ruin the server

if the internet was such a horrible place, filled with cyber bullying and such, shouldn't we have gotten rid of it in the first place before letting people be accustomed to it?

Oh boy... Another attempt.
Read the OP asshat.

Thanks everyone for keeping this thread reasonably contained and actually making an intelligent discussion from it. I don't know much about the issue at hand other than what I said in the OP, so I can't exactly participate in the discussion, but reading all of your responses is helping me to understand it more clearly.

because the community also wasn't aware that they inhibited development?
so we're going forward by taking something away?

besides, there were bots before terrain left. see space guy's bots and amades (imo not that good, but a start.)

okay, how would it have been harder? it's all bricks anyways, just build on slate.

there were races before speed kart.

what a bad example. you aren't even within a reasonable spectrum.
here are some better examples:
  • researching before building residential areas on a swamp, that way people don't get mad when they're told "uh oh you gotta move!".
  • removing a disease when it's first traced instead of allowing it to grow to a point where treating it will cause side-effects.
