My best friend got permanently suspended.

So basically, my best friend has been doing pretty bad in school. He's got a lot of home issues and such but he's a genuinely nice guy. He's been missing from school lately, and I was confused as he hadn't been online either. Apparently, he got permanently suspended from school for having a pocket knife on him, and he has no chance of re-entering the school much less graduating from it. From what my family heard from his mother, he's incredibly down now and has been basically been saying he doesn't have any friends and he deserved it. I think this is complete bullstuff.

Do you think that a school has the right to permanently suspend a student just for carrying a pocket knife?

Well I mean, its bad to have a pocket knife just being carried around, it IS a weapon.
