Jesus you people are being pedantic for the sake of argument. It's called a 12 hour clock. "12 PM" doesn't mean "12 hours past noon", it means "12th hour, after midday". By your logic, "4 AM" would mean "4 hours before midday (8 AM)".

The 12 hour clock wasn't even developed in America, and it's used by a lot of countries.
