Author Topic: How you make a forum adventure?  (Read 2624 times)

well first you have to be motivated

then you have to know the right people

Average layout for a forum adventure:

You wake up in ______. You don't remember anything, not even your _______. ________?
<snip of a person standing somewhere>

"WHAT IS YOUR NAME?????????????????"

then you have to know the right people
or you can be a man and do it yourself
B^)

step 1. look at everyone elses
step 2. do everything they do
step 3. giant mesh of menen, purplemetro, and tingalz
step 4. best community adventure ever

Must be consistent, have good stories and a good system.

Oh yeah, and don't get lazy like me and stop posting.

the kings guide

To make a thrilling forum adventure that'll be great, bare in mind the story or basis of presentation must be compelling, and should definitely have direction. You must be committed to making these, mind you using sprites may be quicker but will require you to add onto it the more times a character or object will be changed, whilst freehanding an adventure may take a bit longer and will require you to bare in mind the scaling of each character. I was joking around with my previous statement, support is always great to have around, and make sure they're dependable if they're willing to commit too.

Little tidbits to remember:
- The update should not branch off at a decision in which the only way of progression is for you to update. This means when you update a part, make sure it's at a part that requires feedback to continue.

- Pace yourself. Don't fall into pressure, "updating every day." If you must, you should make a schedule that way you don't skip out or get too lazy. Even a self schedule where you update when you feel like it shouldn't be unjust.

- Try to plan the direction of the story beforehand. This is mostly the reason why a lot of adventures fall flat, as they didn't plan further than something along the lines of a single room. This goes down from every character to every key area and item that's introduced in your adventure.

- It better be understandable. I mean really the adventures that make you eat the sky are fun for a bit but then, ehh. Neither jargon or fuddlebargonery is great in reality.

- Decide on a style to portray it. I normally prefer visual ones, apologies to those who have text adventures.

- After that, make sure it's how you really want to portray it, be it with a smooth vocabulary or a pixel by pixel 300x-40. Make sure the way you do it is enjoyable for you, that's the key part. If you aren't enjoying making updates...

- ... Then learn when your adventure isn't enticing. People aren't bumping it about every 2 days? Maybe it's either because you're updating or they've lost interest, but if you lose interest as well, turn in the towel. It's best to just think of a new adventure when it comes to giving up.

You shouldn't copy other peoples adventure style, that's a given. Try to be creative and you'll find it rewarding. Good luck and happy trails~
