I disabled it because it slows the forum down to a crawl.  I have tried tons of things with the database but I just can't get it to work reliably.  There are other search solutions like sphinx that I might look into but I can't put anymore effort into this right now.

If you need to find something, google will usually get you there.  The forum is well indexed.
Badspot, why is The Forums having so many problems lately?

Well the forums never ran particularly brilliantly to start with, then we switched over to a new server with a different OS and blank config, then in an attempt to speed things up I changed a bunch of tables from myisam to innodb and that may have made things worse.

On top of that we're getting DDoS'd because some losers need to get "revenge" on me for daring to make a game and then not letting them harass everyone on it endlessly.

Wait, we're getting DDoS'd right now?
Holy forget.

Maybe all this DDoS crap is what that one guy was talking about when he said "the storm was coming".
Joking, joking..

Using Google is an AWFUL replacement.
It still shows the fake site links that mirror the forum

that's easily dealt with if you know how to use search engines
you could do what kalph said, or you could add "-biockland" to the end of it, and there's probably some other option, as well

does this have to do with the servers being moved?

it works now.

Is there anything softlayer can do with the DDOSsing (Ive bet youve tried already so thats probably a no)? Also did you change something in Apache to not give out Server information when I use the command curl -s -I forum.blockland.us | grep Server lol?

Anyways ontopic, how much longer do you think we will be experiencing these problems? Could it be SMF/the attackers thats causing the problems?

There is a "find" command in Windows but there is a set of Unix utilities that work the same:

Oh okay, right now im on linux using the command "curl -s -I websitenamehere | grep Server" and all it does is give me the web server name and occasionally the OS, what you linked me probably gives me something similar to that whole list you had, thanks.

I'm sorry about that happening, hopefully they'll get uncovered and brought to justice. Will the search function ever be back, though?

The search feature was still stuff, anyway.

You'll have to give up searching by time or poster, however.

this is getting out of hand. everyone dumb kid can now go out and "ddos" people. its not even a rare thing anymore, and it works incredibly well. when will this lame stuff be patched? when will internet 2.0 come out? do the developers not care about their users?
