Author Topic: Have you been through any natural disasters before?  (Read 6575 times)

It wasn't bad at all as long as that flame blazed on, main problem being is that at night it would go out unless someone stayed up to stoke the fire every now and then.
It went out almost every night so the mornings were always cold but it wasn't a big deal at the time considering by that point I had been living with that wood stove for about 7-8 years.

I'd rather be in an ice storm than a hurricane.

Amen to that, our home didn't get beat to death during the icestorm. Excluding the roof that was almost broken when giant ice blocks hit it during the thawing.

Even though ice storms can be pretty bad, they still aren't as bad as other disasters. I would hate to be stranded though not being able to walk anywhere or drive anywhere though.
How often do you get ice storms? Where I live, we've only gotten about two or three.

We haven't even had a good snow in a while so the last ice storm was years ago. Unless you count the occasional icings that cover things in a quarter to a half inch of ice. In that case a couple times a year.

That would still technically count as an ice storm.

Alright, then yea occasional ice storms. That one icestorm that really messed stuff up that I was talking about was called "Beautiful yet deadly" or something like that.

My grandparents live in DK (close to Køpenhagen) and I've been there only once, it's either really chilly or humid and rainy like Seattle. Denmark is almost like a "perfect" country.

There's also free healthcare, free education and complete freedom of speech, so yeah, you could say so. :D

DK has all that stuff? Do they speak English?

The vast majority speak Danish and English.

I could deal with that. That country sounds great.

I will always admire the Danish though. They are true fighters who are brave, and with great wit. I'll never forget what they did for the Jewish people and risked their own lives so the national socialist's couldn't identify who was a Jew and who wasn't. My moms grandparents (she's the Danish one) had friends who were killed by the Germans when they weren't even Jewish. Many executions in which the national socialist's did consisted of them not knowing if the person was a Jew or not.

It is, it's also really clean, ecologically-friendly, and architecturally-advanced.

national socialists are loving stupid I must say.

If you ask me alot of countries are more advanced in those areas than us.

My house was flooded twice before during heavy rains, when we lived at the bottom of a hill/field.
Broke a number of items in the house and ruined some furniture...

And the telegraph pole next to the house was hit by lightning and it fried our phoneline.

And then we had a week last year where it was gale force winds quite consistently, and our fences broke. Even new ones we put down to replace the ones that broke earlier in the week.

None of mine seem to be on the scale of anyone elses...

That's still pretty bad.
I also find it unreal how in the past 10 years, hurricanes have been a lot more frequent along the Eastern seaboard in Canada and the US. It's alarming.
