Author Topic: How can I update my BIOS?  (Read 1533 times)

I've tried everything for my loving keyboard and I'm about to quit using it. How can I update my bios on my computer? I don't know the version but here is my full specs If you need anything else just ask.

thats all of the motherboard and the BIOS details
I'm not familiar with updating my BIOS and cant find anywere to update it

My keyboard is doing a thing were whenever I have it plugged in on the spashscreen, it makes the beeping sound beep for about ten seconds and wont leave the screen. When I unplug it, it works fine.
The keyboard is an E-Mac keyboard and Pacha has used it on his computer with no problems. It looks like this

I think it might be the bios and if its anything else I don't know what to do. I would need to dual boot so I cannot just disable it. Any help is appreciated

how are you typing if your keyboard doesn't work

Ugh. It works but it does that at the boot screen.

unplugging keyboard until computer boots, then plugging it in?

Because this is a BIOS keyboard error, not a driver issue.
I'd prefer it if you could get the actual manufacturer's computer model instead of just the board model.

I'm no expert, but it sounds like your PC might be reading it as a boot-able device instead of as a human interface device so it tries to boot from it on start-up and fails.

I dunno, can you check your boot order in your BIOS? Is your HDD the first boot-able device? Better to eliminate all possibilities before flashing your BIOS

This place has a bios update for the chip on your motherboard. It is the top one. However, when it lists the computers it is for, it only lists the model beneath yours. Be careful, it is the top one. http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/search.asp?st=pn&param=4006272R

I've tried this one

I went through the instructions and when it told me to check the BIOS version it was different

Just a heads up: if something goes wrong while you're flashing your BIOS, you're pretty much forgeted. Your motherboard will be stuck in a pseudo-state without a functioning BIOS and is basically junk. So unless the beeping is really annoying, I wouldn't recommend updating the BIOS, just to be on the safe side.

Also: megathread

I was considering it but the thread but normally I only get like 4 replies. I heard there was a way to disable keyboard check but I don't know if t would work during the GRUB menu for ubuntu.
