what he means is to make cube-style trees, using standard default cubes and modter, zone-like cubes, and overlap cubes to get a neat tree foliage shape, on top of a standard-built trunk. It can really cut down on brickcount; a tree once needing 100-200 bricks can suddenly now be 30-60 bricks.

-Be creative.
-Don't make a house thats 100% gray. In fact, try not to use grey.
-Use 1x16 bricks on the bottom of the walls, and recolor them to be a darker color (ex: walls are blue, lines are dark blue)
-Use as many special bricks as you can.
-Under any circumstances, do not make flat roofs. Those are just ugly.
-Make sure to put 2 layers in the walls so it's a different color inside.

Sometimes I forget one or two of these, but I hope you find these helpful.

if you wanna make things look good, you're gonna need to sacrifice some efficiency

In fact, try not to use grey.
Ignore this tip. Gray is the most valuable color you have when building. Especially treunos specials grays.
