Author Topic: Need help on which OS to replace for Windows 8.  (Read 1566 times)

Ok, so here's the thing, I just recently installed Windows 8 replacing Windows 7 on my laptop, and everything is cool and all. But after a few weeks of this, I started to look at some PC gaming videos who have been using a linux ubuntu OS. I find the Ubuntu UI to be very pretty, but I still find Windows 8 to be pretty too, so i'm stuck between choices

Replace Windows 8 with Linux
  • Linux UI is very pretty
  • Port told me Ubuntu is better for coding or whatever
  • I could restart all over, and DL everything again since I have a crapload of apps on my PC

Create Dual-boot Windows 8 and Linux
  • I could have both Windows 8 and Linux
  • Windows 8 allows for dual-boot easily when booting my PC
  • PC could possibly run even slower since I have two OS's installed (idk)

So what should I do guys?

wow he would

Hmm
Linux only I say

Ubunta is a good OS, but if you partition your drive with Ubunta alongside 8, yes it will probably take longer to boot up and slow your hard drive down slightly, unless you have a solid state drive.

Personally I don't find windows 8 all that bad, just annoying. If you are looking for mere speed you could try a small
Linux OS (like damnfastlinux) which will boot quickly, but leave out features that are quite useful (such as .flv codec)

i smell non dual booters here

it will not take longer to start up in almost every case.

dual boot them, before you do that defragment your harddrive if you're not using a ssd.

Alright.
I'm installing Linux Desktop from this website http://www.ubuntu.com/index_asus.html hoping it will erase all of Windows 8.

Should I of.. Deleted Windows 8 first or something..?

Why did you replace Windows 7 in the first place?

Why did you replace Windows 7 in the first place?

idk windows 8 seemed kind of cool at the time

answer mai question above >:C

You should really dual boot, it isn't any slower and then you can use Windows to run games.

ubuntu is for hipster friends

He's right. If anything, Linux boots at least twice as fast as Windows does.

Ok, I have a problem. I was installing Steam on Ubuntu, and then there was an error talking about a 32-bit operating system or whatever, then the package installer came up to reinstall or something; so I reinstalled. But then, my PC froze before it start.

I restarted, and then it booted back into Windows 8, my previously main OS.

What should I do guys? Should I delete the Windows folder or something?

This is my windows folder :I

Windows 7.
Or if you cant afford anything Linux Mint with Cinnamon. I would also recommend fedora Linux if you're a fan of gnome
