A 18 year old teenage girl from Florida, "Kaitlyn Hunt" has been arrested on February 18th, 2013 for a loveual relationship with a 14 year old girl. According to various sources, Kaitlyn has been dating with the girl since November of 2012. The two girls started doing loveual acts during January in the school and Kate's home. In a recorded call during that time, Kaitlyn told the victim she loved her. Soon after that call, Kate was arrested in her Florida home in February 18th, 2013 for "lewd and lascivious battery". After that, a whole load of online support came to her with her own website dedicated to freeing her, http://www.freekate.net, a facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/groups/FreeKate, a petition, http://www.change.org/petitions/assistant-state-attorney-brian-workman-stop-the-prosecution-of-an-18-year-old-girl-in-a-same-love-relationship and finally, merchandise available at http://freekate.net/contact.html.


Now I ain't advertising this little girl's stuff, I just want to know what you guys think. I have mixed reactions.

It's statutory rape. The defendant's loveual orientation is completely irrelevant because a straight defendant would receive the same charges. You cannot have love with people under the age of consent as a legal adult regardless of whether you're the same gender as them.

Also, I'd like to add that while it's sad that an innocent girl is getting charged with those crimes, it's her responsibility as a citizen of the United States to understand statutory rape laws. You can't just make exceptions for people because laws regarding statutory rape have to be explicit and specific. Laws are drafted this way specifically to avoid creating a 'gray area' that would help criminals get away. It doesn't matter whether the defendant is 18 or 19 or 43 as long as they're a legal adult sleeping with a person under the age of consent.

Kate was 18, the victim was 14 (Kate's arrest was made right when the victim turned 15.)

It's amusing how people are blowing this situation up. She deserved to be arrested. Think of an eighteen year old male having loveual relations with a fourteen your old female. He would recieve the same exact charges. It's only receiving this much attention because too many people are on the support homoloveuality bandwagon and its getting old.

I have a feeling the LGBT community will be blind and demand the release of Kate. Sorry, but the law is the law and you can't have love with minors. Consent or not, it is illegal.
