installing Linux mint

hey, i have been wanting to install Linux Mint 14 Nadia Cinnamon Edition on my external hard drive but cant figure out how.
i want to dual boot it so i have Windows XP and Linux. my BIOS doesn't recognize CD as a boot option, and i tried doing that USB zip thing where you boot it from a USB but that didn't work.
how do i install it?

depends how did you put the installation on a usb?

um, cant really remember. i used some sort of formatting program
then i used another program to burn the ISO file onto the usb

Use Unetbootin, that should definitely work.

try useing pendrive linux to burn it to your usb

pendrive that's what i used last time and it didn't work.
i dont think my BIOS likes to boot from those USB

Ensure your BIOS is even capable of booting from USB devices beforehand. In the case you have a motherboard from 2002 and you cannot boot from USB, use optical media.

ok. i have tried almost every solution and nothing works!!!!
i tried this http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/171 (i got to the step where you use parted magic to add another partition to drive C)
i tried the usb thing
i tried the cd thing
i tried everything and nothing works!

There was some program were you put it on a cd or something and it gives you the option to boot from usb's for older machines
i forgot what it was called

is there just a simple exe i can click that will open a wizard and install Linux like when you install programs?

ubuntu has it but its REALLY REALLY SLOW

now that I check their website I think they removed it. It only worked for ubuntu so it wouldn't matter
