You don't have to unless you really want to. Fursonas are usually for people who want to represent themselves as an anthropomorphic creature for one reason or another, and it's fine if you don't fit within this group.

There's no one definition, but it's usually just a character that is either an anthro or just a regular animal.

Edit: If it's because of your drawing skills, just try anyways. My first couple drawings sucked, then they gradually got better.

Ah, none of my characters are very complete representations of me. So I guess the answer is "no".
