Short and long sightedness is caused by the elongating or shortening of the eyeball, which then causes the focus point to shift in front or behind the retina, meaning a blurred image ends up being projected onto said retina. Glasses attempt to re-align the focus point to the retina. It is not related to the number of photoreceptors in your eye. An eagle can have short or long sightedness.
