because i think they're adorable tbh
i can't afford one and i wouldn't have anything to wear it to since conventions scare me and i'd probably outgrow it pretty quickly

You don't usually see people turned off by a team mascot, do you? I think it really just depends on the occasion, when it comes down to it. I wouldn't wear one in public for no reason, but as a mascot? Heck yes. Those things are awesome; you can do stuff (like dance with strangers) and they never have to see you face. Then again, I'd dance with strangers in a shopping mall in street clothes...
