it could be blood from other enemies or possibly small scratches from crawling along the ground, usually if you get shot even once your probably going to die without proper medical care

Well if it was scratches crawling on the ground, why are they also on the clothes? And why are they of the same size and vibrancy as the ones of the skin/fur?

And shooting a target at close range with, say, a shotgun would get blood all over you in a fine mist or splatter rather than this concentrated scatter of spots
