I dunno. I would say no but it's up to you I guess. talking to furries and liking a starbound character imo don't really make you a furry

I feel a bit down. A small part of the reason I created an account and wanted to do stuff on the internet is to find out why furrys and anti-furrys hate each other so much and what we can do to fix that, but I just came to the realization that we are never going to get along and will most likely be arguing and debating this forever. To make matter's worse  im not even sure if im joining the community for the right reason I don't like it for research yet at times that's all I see on sites like FA or even deviant-art so I have no clue if im an outsider or just can't find other people who are in to in to the fandom for the same reason I am. Anti-furry comments, hate, and no one to talk to about the way if feel about this issue of mine makes me feel really alone in this crazy world I got my self involved in.

Sorry to take up so much space with my little panic attack but I think I might need some help finding out this stuff.   

there's really nothing you can do about people hating on you for being a furry other than just saying "ok lol" and ignoring them
when i first got into the fandom i would get really angry at people saying anything even slightly negative about furries and i would argue for like an hour which got me nowhere
if people are really bothering you you can just block them. there's a browser extension that lets you block people on the forums which is pretty handy (i don't have the link right now but i could probably upload it if you can't find it)
9 out of 10 times arguing with people here just causes them to bother you more so it's not worth it

and it's not unusual to be a furry and not be interested in the research
i'm not interested in research at all, doesn't matter what it's of, and i'm still a furry
if you're getting research on FA and you don't want to there's a setting to only show sfw images (since i'm not old enough they're not shown by default and i don't think i could enable them if i wanted to, but there should still be a setting for people who are old enough)
same thing on deviantart, there's a setting to hide nsfw pictures

You're comparing a very small part of a religion to someone taking a game character out of a game, and associating with it to the point of it being what you could almost call a "fursona"

the only way he relates to the fandom, judging by what he said, is that he likes his character in a video game, who is a bird. that's it. as far as I know his only interaction with the community at all is this thread
he can call himself whatever he wants, but he isn't a furry
