They're not that bad. In fact, they can be kind of cool in moderation and if done right. It's not like they're permanent or anything, I think they're only used for a few days for like festivals and stuff.

Yeah I think they look really cool when done lightly, especially along the back or on the sides. And the ribbon doesn't HAVE to stay on forever. It's tied through pierced hoops essentially.

by the way why are so many people in to this furry stuff? especially how for many people this "furry fandom" doesn't seem to involve zoomania/zoophilia and they focus more on the visual qualities of a human character with animal features (the fact that they look like total cutie pies).

I think the reason why most people are furries is because it gives them a kind of alternate persona (or fursona if you wish) where they can be whatever they want and do whatever they want.
I would go into detail more but I'll leave it to someone else to do that.
