spite for what?
Just cuz

you know what I don't get
"adoptables"
even more than that, I don't get why people actually buy them
If they really really like the character design they will buy them. I mean I think its dumb but it happens.

Especially when they're a crapload of recolors.

I rarely like the design on those things. they're almost universally absurd, with some weird theme

"yeah let's recolor this same pose 10 times and sell them to people"

The idea of those fruit pieces up there (and the three pieces in the series I've posted previously) is pretty silly too.
"Give me a fruit name and $40 and i'll draw my species as that fruit"
It's not anywhere near as bad though, like they're all fresh drawings instead of recolors, and the money is (claimed to be) for raising moving funds instead of just "i want money"
Plus they're adorable as forget

It's like, "I don't have any ideas on an OC, so I'll buy one so I own all the rights to it."

Because you can't just take a drawing someone makes and say "THATS MY OC YEP," you either get consent or a commission, or "adopt".

Pageloss

Adoptable and Recolors?
I think a cringe worthy art dump might be coming...

I've seen this one set of 'adoptables' on dA. The base wasn't theirs. All 6 or 7 of them used the exact same base. They had a wide range of varying ages, despite all looking the same aside from color.

I think people were buying them.

Seems like it'd be a decent market if dA points were actually worth anything.

This is often the case.

"HURR DURR GOTTA MAKE MORE CHARACTERS TO SELL......... OH HEY, WHAT DOES THIS FILL CAN DO?!"

1 US Dollar is equal to about 80 dA points. How much were each of the adoptables?

Don't even remember but these people mass produce these things as if it were a factory.

And even then, 1 USD buys 80 points. But 80 points does not buy 1 USD. Points cannot convert to currency.

Points cannot convert to currency.
they possibly could, but at a lower rate (or maybe not, depending on the buyer and their reasons for buying them from you), and it'd require a good bit of trust
but still, it's a possibility

This actually makes point commissions kinda sad. What are they going to do with all of those points?

Clearly the intention is to buy dA premium services without having to spend real money, they just offer their skills instead. It's a wonderful scheme on DeviantArt's part to let people who have more money spend more money on people who want their premium services but don't have the money to spend.

can also buy other commissions lol
