What's the point of criticizing something if the artist isn't even present or even able to see it. All it is at that point is complaining, for the most part.

I have explained this many times :P

If you are an artist, you almost instantaneously form a binary opinion of a piece when you look at it: either "good" or "bad". If I point out flaws in a piece that you think is "good" you can learn to see things you normally are unable to, even if you didn't draw that particular piece. It's also helpful when you can tell that there's something "off" about a picture, but can't place your finger on what.

And for the people who don't want to read it, I put [criticism] tags around it and make the text invisible. No one is forced to read the critique, so no harm done.

I type my opinion of the piece first, then I go through and critique it and put it in the tags
