Back around 2007 or 2008, I was looking for a role play forum and came across a site that had a list of various message boards. Some were dedicated to specific universes, like Halo or Fallout, some were really 'hardcore' with their role playing, like dice rolls and stats and stuff, and I kept looking because I wanted something that wasn't only about one franchise and wasn't really serious about role play mechanics.
I eventually found a link to a sorta general role playing forum called "The Furry Forums", which was known as "IMVU Furry Pride" before my time spent on there. I don't think I knew anything about furries at the time, maybe I'd heard the term used on YouTube or something before then, but I don't really remember. One thing that I liked about it was the fact that in most cases you could role play with a character of any species that you wanted, and if the rules of an individual role play thread allowed it, you could have fictional species from different canons meet and interact with each other. I then quickly learned about fursonas and fursuits, and thought it was all really cool.
For a couple years I didn't have a fursona, and most or all of my characters were Human, but I really wanted some variety. Some characters had their biographies rewritten to have them be members of other species, although most of them stayed Human. It took a year or two for me to come up with my fursona, and he was just named Scott Bates at the time, although at first he was just a non-serious mess around character that I used in the Random Thread. The Random Thread often had little role plays that weren't big or well-written enough to be made into full threads, and Scott was a guy that always had a hard time staying Human. He'd always get shot with chemical darts or get magic spells cast at him by other users that would turn him into all sorts of things, and one day I decided that should just be an ability of his. Thus the beginning of what would eventually become DeNihil was born.
DeNihil's history continued: After naming him DeNihil, he was initially some sort of organic shapeshifter, possibly something like the Blob but with morphing abilities like the T-1000. One day around the middle of 2012, my mom came home and gave me Deus Ex: Human Revolution for the Xbox 360, since I had been pretty interested in the original Deus Ex game and was talking about it a lot. Apparently she thought they were the same game, and at first I wasn't really interested in Human Revolution for some reason, but I gave it a try and I loved it.
At the end, I decided to side with David Sarif, ensuring that mechanical augmentations for Human implantation would continue to advance and hopefully become more accessible by more and more people. Sometime later I decided DeNihil should be an Android built by Sarif Industries, at first without any shapeshifting technology.
Can't believe I've only really been a trans-Humanist for two years. It feels like I've had these ideas and dreams forever.
