Dude, it's your character, do what you want with him. I don't think it should matter too much to you that people will see him as hyper OP, if that's what you really want. I see that kind of stuff all over f-list anyways.

I'll go ahead and take that, thanks.
you own half the pages on these forums I swear to god

I don't really want to be a hero, I just wanna be a normal, likeable guy. I don't really feel like becoming power incarnate.
i just want to be a dad, like all the other dads in the world

Heroes don't deserve flaws, and getting seven billion fallible loving fools to 'relate' with the heroes should never be a goal for a writer.

Lol "Hero"

So sorry that your own insecurities bleed over into your characters. Maybe one day you'll step up to the bat and come up with something original eh? Keep the character the way you want. You're going to get criticized regardless if he has any weaknesses or not.

Seems like this whole post is actually you telling people how they should make THEIR characters. An actual coward is someone who can't take criticism and turn the other cheek and do their own thing regardless of what people say. Which is more than i can say for how you're expressing yourself right about now.

Uh, I don't know if "deserve" is the right word, but a character without flaws is a boring mary jane character.

Are you saying you don't think DeNihil's a heroic character? How would you or anyone else here know either way if I haven't detailed his exploits?

I think DeNihil is very much a heroic character. But personal opinion on a lot of peoples part just thinks he's a bit mary-sue. You can overdo it.

We wouldn't have villains without flaws, or legacy's without mortality in a historic sense. You seem to generalize everyone who gives their characters weaknesses as people who are only pandering to other peoples wishes. I'm not doing that because i choose these things out of choice. I see more courage and 'heroism' in that than i see being a super god.

and I chose for my character to have weaknesses because I prefer them being somewhat human , and not just godlike unkillable figures because I don't like those kinds of characters at all, they're just boring.

Agreed, all-powerful characters are boring as all forget.

I mean would anyone watch a movie or read a book with that kind of character?

"so this guy goes into a park and kills a bunch of guys then the cops come and the cops couldn't do anything so he killed them then the army came over and the army couldn't do anything so he killed then et cetera et cetera"

Riveting.
