no, he linked to the image URL, but then e621 redirects that to the page for the image
sometimes it seems to work, for some reason. but more likely than not, if you hotlink to an image on e621, it won't work. so it's easier for everyone involved if you just rehost it to begin with
I have an imgur extension for chrome that makes it just as easy as getting the image url would be

im trying to re-teach myself how to draw but i'm having a horrible time doing it since i hate people watching me draw and im really self conscious and my starfish brother keeps popping in here to hover over me and i loving hate it

Invest a few bucks in a door latch. I did and now I have privacy when I want it.
Unless you have those kind of parents who are like "No, you cannot lock your door"
