Children are highly associated with pretending to be animals. Why do you think kids shows are always with animals? They love animals. That behavior slowly dies out as people become older, however, the 'furries' are essentially those who haven't lost that behavior.
What's so bad about a kid doing what a kid does? Have you not heard of a child barking or something randomly? Meowing?

I dunno, it just doesn't seem right for them to be exposed to the furry fandom so early in their lives. I understand some animalistic roleplay here and there, but going to conventions like this just feels odd to me is all.

Maybe when the furry fandom becomes mainstream I would probably would agree. But I dunno how a child would act or be treated if they believe such a thing is open and alright to publicize. Children are easily impressionable and I would worry about my children and how they would get along with the other kids.
