Because most people don't have the skills to do that? And don't want to spends hundreds of hours/thousands of dollars investing into practicing?
Also these aren't children/women paid pennies a day in 3rd world countries like most clothing, these are artists who actually want a livable pay/hr, and it takes a lot of time to make these.

Also $50 won't get you anything lol
A yard of faux fur is like $25-35 for basic stuff, even more if you want really long pile or a hard to find color. And you'll need several yards, in multiple colors
Plus you need a ton of other stuff like sewing supplies, a ton of hot glue, foam.
Just the materials can easily cost several hundred.

Learn business. Most of the cost is labor. Design and labor. You could do it yourself for cheap, but I guarantee your's would be stuff. High end guitars are an amalgamation of woods and metal. You could build one yourself for about $600 - $800 with the best quality parts and woods. But if you don't have any experience in luthiery, it will probably turn out stuff. You pay these people who have experience in design and craftsmanship to make the end result as high quality as possible.

Yep. with my art abilities, if I made one it would end up looking something like that (although without the ripped out eyes at least)
I'd rather spend 5x as much and get something that looks like this:

If, thats the big thing. IF. I'd imagine it'd take a lot of practice as well, chances are you want a good one within 2-3 years.
