Its just how he greets, get your thumb out of your ass and just tell him. After a while of being ignored by someone you want to be friends with you'd probably do the same thing.

The only time I do that anymore is to get someone's attention before having an actual conversation, or as a "hey look" as addressed below.
 And even then i don't do it that often

and constantly messaging me even if I dont respond with "HEY LOOK" even though I obviously dont want to be bothered

Plus I only say "look" a couple times (and several minutes apart) before giving up

with pointless crap like that.
