a fear of weapons is a natural fear. they were literally made to kill human beings. how could you possibly think fearing that means something's wrong?
No, a fear of weapons being wielded against you is a natural fear. Fearing a weapon because it is designed to kill isn't natural. Knives are designed to kill, but it's not natural to be afraid of one when you use it to cut up your dinner.

That's essentially my interpretation of Freud's quote.  No, of course, I don't think of Freud any time I need some quote about psychology or philosophy, but I feel like he was pretty accurate when he said that.

oh so you're one of those "guns are bad because they kill, world peace for all" hippies
i see
they are weapons. weapons are made to kill people or at the very least hurt them
that makes them, as a concept, bad

if you find some non-murderous use for them, that's a different story. recreational shooting, at a range or something, or hunting for food, stuff like that is fine as far as I'm concerned
but none of those things call for respect of the weapons. not in the way you guys think they should be respected, anyway

at least two people specifically said that they deserve respect because they were used to kill people. that is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard in my entire life

kitchen knives aren't weapons

I CAN'T
WHAT
I'm guessing you think the ability to use something to hurt someone makes it a weapon
in which case, pencils, cars, and computer monitors are also weapons, right?

you just need to get creative sometimes

Yes.

If you use a salad or a zipper or a raccoon to help you in a fight or hurt someone, it's called a weapon.

anything can be a weapon

Completely incorrect.

It should be respected as someone's property, similar to a car or house. Not to mention that the gun this argument stemmed from was an antique relic from a pretty important period of history.

if I could find a gif of someone being hit with a computer monitor I would post it

ah well, two outta three is close enough

anything can be a weapon
anything can be used as a weapon, but that doesn't make it one
haven't you ever seen The Iron Giant?

what is incorrect about it??

and yes. if it is someone else's property it should be respected as their property. but I imagine that gun was the property of whoever painted it. if not, that's a different issue entirely
