okay? not seeing anywhere in that article that says they leave their proboscis behind
the gif looks fake in general. like cheap horror movie cgi
but the fact that it shoots that thing out and then starts crawling off is what's really important. their proboscis is part of their body, it doesn't just come off like thatwell, I'm not gonna disagree with that. but since I first read someone ask what it was I wanted to just say "fake"
despite the fact that you are very obviously backpedalling, nobody said it was leaving the proboscis behind. the only thing clearly shown in that gif is the worm shooting the proboscis over the guy's hand.

nobody said it was leaving the proboscis behind
it's a gif. nobody has to say anything. I can see it

who cares what it is or isn't that stuff is still pretty nasty

you knew what i meant though... are you really that desperate to hide that you didnt think that worm was real? smh

found the video wheres it from that talks about it

the answer is revealed go home everyone

yep. I already saw it. several times. that's its proboscis, and when it's done with it, it's going to pull it back inside its body, not leave it on somebody's hand
are you really that desperate to hide that you didnt think that worm was real? smh
nobody's hiding anything. I read the wikipedia article before I even saw that epicduke had linked to it. everything you could possibly want to know about it is one google search away. I'm not just gonna say something like that without at least looking it up first
the answer is revealed go home everyone
yeah it's so revealed
I trust this incredibly scientific youtube channel with all of my animal-related questions
an animal is not going to be able to regenerate an organ that it relies on for getting food. you aren't going to be able to regenerate anything without eating
and even if it could, somehow, do that, it would definitely not detach it voluntarily, for no reason

I'm not even the only person who thinks it looks fake

Nemertea release their proboscis from an orifice below it's mouth as a way to immobilize it's prey. Typically when it releases it's proboscis, it will move towards whatever's caught in their toxic secretions and then it will attempt to swallow it's prey. I only know this cause I looked it up the first time I saw the gif

With that said, the gif does look fake. The way it shoots out the proboscis looks too artificial.

evolution's some crazy stuff. we could have these forgeters on land one day.

ok i'm staying inside for the rest of my life

the only reason we'd see them on land in your lifetime is if there were some horrible mutation event.

have fun bleaching that out of your memory
Reminds me of this scene from Akira:

Speaking of which, that entire movie is a cringefest. Watch it as my contribution to this topic.
