I'm legitimately interested to hear a negative opinion about furries that doesn't really on "they want to forget animals" "they just forget in suits" "they think they're animals" or misc other claims that are just incorrect
if i had to guess, its that large amounts of the furry fandom thing is in it for the research. Animal person research has a way of alienating people. Chances are, furfriend in that picture is in to that kind of thing
furry research isn't a result of anything specific to furries
it's a common result of
interest + young adult age love drive = loveualized interest and it happens with every other thing there is, from individual games (a game with uniquely distinguishable characters is announced, within a few days there's research of them) to anime....my god, anime. I know so many anime fans who have no problem talking about their loveual interests in tentacles and loli and whatever else you can think of, as if it was just a casual thing people talk about all the time, whereas the furries i talk with keep that discussion with other furries. Look at photos from anime cons and there's half dressed people everywhere, whereas a furry con's most eyecatching costumes show no skin at all.
Furry research is (mostly) only as hated as it because a) brightly colored animal people stand out more than humans and b) it's cool to hate. First time I saw it, before I knew what furries where, I was like "eh, whatever, time to move on" But then people introduced me to what furries "were" and showed me all this research and like "wow look at this gross stuff look how nasty these people are" and now suddenly i'm just like "wwaaaaat duuu fuuuuuuuuk"
I mean no one expects anyone to like it (except a few people who do, who should be bashed), and when I see something I don't like i just find the easiest think to do is just to move on
