i'm implying a situation where the person isn't monetizing their edit.
Nightcore is basically infringing on copy right

literally stealing the song, speeding it up, and claiming it as their own
claiming it as their own
i've seldom seen someone claiming a nightcore edit as their own song

i legit don't understand what point you're trying to make. remixing/editing a song isn't theft.
its theft because its taking an entire song, speeding it up, and claiming it as something else

why are you trying to argue against this

Most remixes only use samples and small sections of the original song, while nightcore pretty much always uses the entire song.
quite literally every remix i've seen uses the entire song, makes a different 'sound' out of it, and kind of shuffles sections of the song sometimes maybe?

explain to me what you mean by claiming it as something else. i'm fairly sure they just do the whole "forgetBOY FRED - SLUMJAMS [NIGHTCORE EDIT]" thing and not "NIGHTBOY NED - NUTJAMS"

if they claim it as their own, original song, NUTJAMS, then that's probably theft

Truth be told, I haven't seen anyone claim a song as their own product. They might claim to be a "remixer"/"DJ" (which is a far cry from actual remixing/plunderphonics) but I haven't seen them call it theirs.

One of my favorite remixes (and what I had in mind when typing that) was the Sabres of Paradise hyper-minimalist version of 'Leave Home' by the Chemical Brothers. I was wrong there though, you're right. 99% of remixes use the original material, but they have to get legal permission from the original artists first. That's also how they acquire the stems and masters to remix from.

yeah it's kind of a richard move to not get the artist's permission before uploading/sharing an edit of something

in nightcore they basically never get permission they just do it and claim it as another genre with the most low effort edit you can imagine, changing the speed slider from 100% to 200%

at least it's good. it pretty much makes song 10x better
