Europa Universalis is a series of sandbox games roughly focusing on the eras between the fall of the Byzantine Empire through the early modern period. This does not mean\ that the game follows history to a T. In fact, games of Europa Universalis typically become ahistorical rather quickly, with player input almost mandatory to keep things truly accurate to the real world. This could lead to anything from the British Isles getting conquered by Italia, to the Aztecs becoming a world power.

Yes, the game does give you the option to commit genocide against the Amerindians. But see, it also gives you the option to peacefully vassalize and annex them if you have good enough relations.
