You know modern cars are way safer than older cars right? The reason they crumple is because it absorbs energy and stops you from being thrown around inside the car. Like a modern mid size car would be way safer than any full steel car from the 50s.

Actually if a person got rear ended, regardless if the car gets totaled they would just get a new one. In a rear end accident the crash is always the rear drivers fault, its considered not being in control of your vehicle.

Also, older cars in the event of an accident may take less damage, bit repairing them would be a specialty due to older parts and skills. In the end fixing and older car may turn out more costly then a newer car.
