woah wtf why dont we just pay him the money, the stuff the torium was after was probably 10x that much, plus he could cause any number of problems. just pay him the money.

This way it'll be easier to get him killed off.

: I'll have to talk to my "buddy" captain 'bout this. Meanwhile, you can take this number.
: ...Alright. You better not leave me hanging or I'll hunt your ass down.
Derrel turns to motion to Keith, but it appears he is currently preoccupied.

: Horace? What are you doing here?
: No introduction? Jeez, what has "friendly relations" come to... Anyways, I'm here having a drink before
returning to Beruban. Just finished up some business regarding commodities imports. Care to join me for a drink?

Horace doesn't know what your business here is yet, and the guards didn't overhear anything when you were talking to the bartender. You can choose to decline the offer and leave, or take up this opportunity to repair your image and/or possibly find out more information.

You know that Horace is a shrewd, intelligent man, even for his size. Generally he doesn't do much that doesn't benefit himself. However, he sometimes doesn't make the best calls and fumbles things that could have been done better.

Make up some excuse about how you were just on your way to the Governer's office, but you think you've got enough time for a drink or two.

Derrel, go and get a drink, be prepared to jump into the Captain's conversation if it gets awkward.

Everyone else, just keep doing whatever it is they're doing.

then ask him what the news is around here in a subtle way, if he asks what youre doing here just say taking a ship for a test run and breaking in a new crew while meeting the governor for a talk or something

: I need to go talk to the Governor, but I can spare some time.
: Really? Well, perfect. He's actually coming to meet me here before we both head off to Beruban.
: ...Never knew that times were as such that governors came to bars.
: You can ask him. Mind I ask why you're here?
: Just breaking in a new crew, taking our new expeditionary ship on a test run.
: Last news I heard from Regnark though is that the Vyrings invaded them. Why's "testing your ship" so
important? I thought you were promoted to captain after your defense here 6-odd years ago.

"how about you shut the forget up before i smack you the forget up cracka ass bitch"
just tell him youre testing some new confidential navigation technology or something, then change the subject to subtly asking about any big news around these parts

"Experimental systems, can't really tell you much about it, it's pretty 'hush hush' stuff. Anyway, had anything important going on around these parts lately?"

: I was; Regnark High Command left me with some confidential navigation tech that would otherwise
have fallen into Vyring hands. All I know is that they're massing a counterattack force in Hancath.
: Alright. Good luck on that.
: Anything notable since I last was here?
: Still searching for that stowaway; beyond that, just a few Regnark stragglers coming through. You still don't happen to
know anything about him, do you?
: No. You recall our thorough sweep of the ship.
: Still, if you get anything, contact me. The offer still stands.

At that moment, the Governor of Xaae walks in, with his bodyguard duo.

Horace introduces you to the governor.

: Guv'nor, this is Captain and Ambassador Keith Ducanan, from the Regnark System.
: An ambassador? What's the matter? Why didn't you come by my office earlier?
Quote from: Background Information: Regnark-Acrimyaa Political Standpoint
Regnark High Command has suggested that you try to enlist help from the Acrimyanns if possible in resisting the Vyring invasion. The Regnark system has its strongest ties with Acrimyaa through economic trade of raw titanium and platinum, but is also connected through their common enemy, the Vyring Federation. However, tension lies within the government systems; the Regnark system follows a mixed republic-democracy while Acrimyaa practices a balance of parliamentary democracy and a central, bloodline heirarchy.

Just say you got lost on the way there.

"One of my officers requested we come down to this area to buy him one of your local drinks, it's kind of a tradition he has. We were just on our way to your office now when we I ran into Horace here."

"we wanted alcohol, you got beef??"

Offer to shake his hand, and offer to buy him a drink.
