I've done it with Minecraft and a couple of other games using a utility called Joy2Key, which allows you to map joystick commands to keyboard events.
That's usually what any usb controller will have you do, it's not uncommon to find a program.

I have a Logitech F310 that I had programmed to a pretty comfortable setting for blockland, thing is you won't be able to build or do much with that. It would also take a lot of skill to master using it for TDMs effectively.
