does boltster even lift?

Someone should make a group of swole playertypes.

My maximum lifts in pounds:
Bench: 180 [~80kg]
Over Head Press: 145 [~65kg]
Squat: 155 [Just started these] [~70kg]
Deadlift: 300 [~130kg]

I plan on competing in bodybuilding a few years time, but nothing major. Just competitions locally.

I'm calling shenanigans on your form if these are true. No way you should be squatting more than your deadlift.
i am using a machine currently until Sunday. So if that makes it any "easier" than sure. But I actually set the squat machine to 280 today and while it was hard as forget I was able to do it.

I've always had strong legs from soccer and longboarding, and beginners often squat more than they deadlift but that balances out quickly.
I'm moving to the bar Sunday though, for everything.

Also today was the first day I could actually see/feel abs. My top abs were visible and it's the most beautiful thing ever.

If you're using a machine, it will make it easier than the alternative.

Ah, well having played sports before does give beginner weight lifters a big boost in their initial numbers. But when you say squat machine what machine are you talking about?

I know this whole thread really isn't about cardio but I'm more concerned with doing cardio than strength training. Is running one of the best forms of cardio?

Yeh, running and bicycling.

Yeh, running and bicycling.

I like biking so much more than running, but I haven't had a bike in years. I had a pretty nice mountain bike but I flipped on it one day and pretty much ruined it. It wasn't like top of the line but it was probably the best bike I've ever had. I would like to get a new one but don't feel like spending the money on it.

it pays back when your physique improves :D

Well I could also just run for free, but running is boring. My cousin was really into running, it was crazy. He would run like 7 miles a day every day. I got into running with him when he staid with me but that didn't last long.

I have to pay fees for college that include access to their gym, what would be the best machine at a gym for cardio? I really need to take advantage of it since I have to pay a few hundred dollars a semester for it if I use it or not.

a squat machine? i'm assuming you mean a smith machine

dont ever use a smith machine, for anything at all

i have no tools and no money for tools to help with exercise and getting a bit buff so i want advice from people who know what they're talking about. aka how2getbuff

i want to get a bit buff since my upper body is really stuffty and nasty, so is there any tips i can get?

Joining a gym is prooobably your best bet. Without money, you can't really buy all of what you need. By the way, if you ever run into some cash - don't prioritize your upper body. Work your body equally.

I could probably get one rep of about 170 or so

Bench: 170

Never found my max for dead or over head yet

This is pretty important to note. The smith machine only moves straight up and down. Watch advanced lifters with good form do all the big compound exercises and see how much purely vertical movement there is. spoiler: the answer is none

Also because of physics you're getting less of a workout for the same weight compared to doing an exercise with a free barbell.

Running is definitely good. Just like with anything make sure you get good form down before you go crazy. My cardio consists of running, bicycling, swimming, and some jump rope here and there. Hopefully in the next couple years I'll be ready to do a big boy triathlon in a decent time.

I messed up my mountain bike last fall. The cable is jacked and the rear derailleur is messed up and stays stuck in seventh so I can only choose between 7th, 14th, and 21st gear. The frame and wheels are still in good shape though. I'll eventually get some new gear for it so I can go trail riding with friends.

Right now though I'm saving up to get a decent road bike I can use for training and commuting to school.
