Author Topic: is it "i am to lazy" or "i am too lazy"  (Read 35631 times)

my idiot friend thinks its "to lazy" and i think its "too lazy"

what is it

"too lazy" is correct. does your friend really not know the difference between "to" and "too"

your idiot friend is definitely an idiot

"I am too lazy to give a decent answer as to why it's 'too' and not 'to'"

"I am too lazy to give a decent answer as to why it's 'too' and not 'to'"
ok then

"Too" portrays the idea of in excess or more than it should be, and "to" is used in expressions like to walk, to run, to paint, etc. (so it's a verb). Saying "I am to lazy" would make lazy a verb, and that makes no sense. "Too" makes sense because it portrays excess, and if you swap "too" for "excessively" in "I am too lazy" it will still make sense.

does that work

you use "too" for quantity like "too much" and "to" for places like "to go to"
