Author Topic: Making a server, need suggestions  (Read 382 times)

so im converting an old home PC for use as a server, and i have all the neccesary hardware set up but i need hlep deciding which OS I should use.

linux is not out of the question, im leaning towards it because its so much lighter than windows.

windows server 2003 is an option.

this is a computer to hsot a blockland server by the way, simple stuff

using a dedicated machine to host something via home internet is a bad idea imo

anyway probably linux would do you the best bet

i know this, i was asking if i install a 64-bit OS on my computer im getting, will it be a 64-bit system?
so what exactly differentiates 32-bit and 64-bit computers

if i install a 64-bit OS on my computer that im getting ( http://pcpartpicker.com/p/18T0F ) will it be able to utilize all 8 GBs of ram and be a 64-bit computer

i am soo clueless ugh

jk im not an starfish thanks for the input, i think linux would be best too. i just have pretty good internet and i want to put it to use, ive hosted a 32 player server before with relatively low-none lag.

If you actually have a copy of Windows server on hand, I'd say use that. But since you most likely don't just happen to have one on hand, I'd just go with some free Linux server.
