Author Topic: White polygons glitch on Linux Ubuntu 13.04  (Read 4385 times)

Easy fix. Stop making your computer run on crappy operating systems.
The only thing crappy is you, you'd you rather pay $200 for a "non-crappy" OS that runs authentication checks on you every so often and requires the use/payment of an Anti virus program, when a free OS such as Ubuntu can do ALMOST everything the same that the non-crappy OS can do and does not run auth. checks or force you into the monopoly of purchasing anti virus? That crappy OS (not ubuntu but Linux itself) is used by the astronauts in the International Space Station. It also powers Amazon, Twitter, Facebook...oh and you'd never guess, the Blockland website/master server. It's also used by Disney and Pixar to render things that were made in Maya/3DSMax such as the movie Shrek. So, before you come and tell someone an OS is crappy, look it up first.

Stop. None of you are helping by having your arguments in this thread.

reasons to use linux:
  • server system
  • hipster

I got carried away AS USUAL, I thought he already solved the problem?

Negative. I need better graphic card drivers, the ones I have now fix everything BUT the polygons and if I change it most of the system graphical stuff screws up BUT the polygons are fixed T_T

Hmm, well last time I compiled them they worked nicely with everything except with Wine on BL. This could be of course just with AMD, as they have the worst drivers for linux ever. NVIDIA has nice drivers for linux, they even have built in temp readers which I think the Windows drivers do not have. Anyways, so do you have AMD or Nvidia? I know by heart how to compile the drivers the for AMD but I would assume its almost the same for NVIDIA.

I have nvidia. I have no idea how to compile drivers what so ever, I just want the mix of this (everything fixed) and the 313 binary drivers (polygons, polygons only)

How does windows force you to buy av software. Hint: It doesn't!

Also, linux might be extremely good for render farms or servers due to being lightweight, but that does not make it a good OS for a home computer.

First, switch back to the standard non-proprietary drivers that Ubuntu gives you and then restart your PC.

Im not sure with nvidia, you will need to lookup some guides but essentially what you download is a .run file (the same for AMD drivers). With that .run file downloaded, open up a terminal and navigate to where the .run file is (you can use the command cd and usually it will be in the Downloads folder so just do cd Downloads). Once there type "sudo ./NAMEOFFILEHERE.run" (without the quotes). You may run into some errors such as dependences which are usually libraries you need to install for the installer to work. Try and do that and see what happens.

I'll try to do this today, although it seems to happen in Minecraft too

no it doesnt

yeah but it can't really do the most important thing to me - gaming, like half the games dont work on wine

what the forget are you talking about? you dont need to purchase anti-virus at all

Does anybody think this can be it? Maybe I screwed up something here this is the CompizConfig OpenGL settings

I think those are the open source drivers for nvidia. Im really not sure what to do, you need to remove those and then you can install the non open source ones from nvidia. id suggest opening a help post on http://ubuntuforums.org

You’ve said the same thing twice basically (first and last). Please, everyone knows you need some type of anti virus program on windows, you aren't forced to buy it yes thats true but would you honestly go without one? Even if you dont visit malicious sites there are chances that a virus could leak into those sites, and then how would you know if your computer is infected or not, I dont think Windows by default will give you any warning messages. The majority of free anti-viruses are either trials or the ones that are actually free dont have any or as much protection as the ones that you pay for have. All of the top best anti viruses are currently payware (Webroot, Kaspersky, Norton). Half the games don't work on wine? Have you heard of Steam, because its out natively for Linux. (so is desura and its been out for a while). http://store.steampowered.com/browse/linux/ there are currently 225 games and the numbers are growing. If people like you or Zeblote (idc how you spell his name) immediately bring down an OS without even trying it, its obviously not going to get any better. Being optimistic and trying it out is what eventually will make it better.
