You want them to not be as loud? Stay away from mono. The purpose they are supposed to serve is enough that you dont need to have them in a mono form as they would be more useful if heard at the same volume wherever.
Take the files and put the same thing into audacity twice, one right channel, the other left channel.
Increase their rate to 96000.
Decrease the right one's speed 50%, and decrease the left one somewhere in the 40's. This will create a sort of 3D effect and is less low quality than if they both were slowed down 50%.
Increase the range of the sound by changing the script

You can try to look around for any programs that can reduce filesizes as the files you have there are extremely large, and users usually perfer downloads that contain items less than 1 mb because its...well, quick. 2 mb is hitting it far. Its not needed though.
