Author Topic: Stop making "I WANT MAPS BACK!!!" topics.  (Read 5341 times)

But... I like maps...
Lol jk guys.

These topics can be annoying, but they aren't gonna stop.
And while we're at it, I push my breakthrough idea:
When starting a server, you can choose maps/shaders, and shaders are automatically disabled on player connection to a map-based server.

I know asking for maps is annoying, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't love skiing on a mountain I didn't have too build.:)

that's a nice suggestion and all, but badspot would have to haul a bunch of code to try to make the maps compatible with V21 and the shaders, so it probably won't happen anytime soon.

The auto updater prevents that.

I don't think there should be a rule against it, they have the right to express how they feel about loosing maps, they just need time to realize they aren't coming back as of now, it'll probably never come back but one can hope.
Unfortunately there are people who no amount of time can do good for. Casually these are people who leave the game entirely, but some spam the forums not even saying "I wish we had maps" but "BRING BACK THE MADAFAKIN MAPS !!1!!!one!!!onety-one!" this is usually a RARE case that sends moderators a swingin' with the ban hammers.

Warning - while you were typing a new reply has been posted. You may wish to review your post.

Oh forget you too.

you did? i don't see one. i remember there used to be one on the front page of development, it was easy to see so people knew where to post things. It was convenient having a megatopic made by a moderator who can sticky things.

These will topics not stop, they will continue to be posted again and again. They may die out for a bit, but eventually in the future someone's going to come back and post "man looking back i WISH we had maps again!" or something along the line.  Until there's a good substitute for terrain, people are going to continue asking for maps back, because they could cover things more efficiently than our current bricks can.

and why should we let them continue to bring it up? i say the topics just get deleted upon creation because we don't touch on anything new in the countless topics
everything thats needed to be said has been said and you can just visit blockos megatopic to whine some more there

What if baspot could send a message out, like a pop up next time you get on the forums to remind everyone that maps are gone for good? And for new players, they get the message when they join.

The last time I tried to make a topic like this (that went into great detail about why, and included many examples), some douche moderator locked the topic and I never got a word back about who or even why. Twice.

They are against topics like this. Ones that try to stay or get pinned at least.

honestly the whining is getting ridiculous. all i'm hearing is "too many tewwain thweads :(((".

i actually have v19 and it still auto updates.
You know that you can prevent that right?

Full circle for locking the topics.

Besides, wouldn't you rather have awesome looking shadows and shaders rather than poorly textured maps?
You mean, ones that lag like hell on minimum? (the highest setting i can use)

Minimum doesn't even have shadows, so all you're seeing is the shine on textures and vignette, i don't think those take up as much FPS as the shadows themselves do, so you are really really in need of a new computer

no, its spam thats taking up space that real servers and real projects could use 1000x better rofl

i think there should be a rule that says something like "do not beg for maps", but worded better (i can't think of a good wording)
there's nothing wrong with talking about maps but when there's hundreds of topics saying "ugh bring mapz back badspot u suk!!!!" that's... kind of bad
i personally prefer maps to shaders but since i can't really run shaders i guess i'm biased. i do know that they aren't coming back though, and i accept that
it'd be kind of harsh to just ban everyone who asked about maps but maybe they could be given a warning and have their topic locked/deleted - that would cut down on the repeat topics
but eh, i really don't have any say in what is/isn't bannable, just saying

You mean, ones that lag like hell on minimum? (the highest setting i can use)
I use minimum all the time and it doesn't lag for me.
Course that's cause I have a better computer. But still an Intel, so I can't go any higher than minimum.

But my dad's computer can run at max and it doesn't lag a bit.

Well guys, if you don't notice the mega topic... You don't post in the mega topic.

All the interior topics don't bother me at all, I don't understand why people get so worked up over a virtual piece of text you don't even have to read. Complaining about them won't make them stop either, so essentially you are just wasting your time.

Should be a rule.
Does it bother you so much that you would go to the extreme of modifying the forum rules which have been untouched for years? If we are allowed to create these kind of rules then we are never going to stop adding.

i'm agreeing with you that the whining is out of hand and should be brought to a megatopic. what's wrong??
