Author Topic: I think I have Nyctophobia  (Read 1080 times)

Recently I've had a real terrible time in the dark. I went out to my garage to go get a soda from the fridge, when I felt like something was in the darkness. I looked around and saw nothing however. I continued to go get the soda from the fridge when I still felt like I was being watched. I became so terrified that I sprinted for the door after I got the can. Once I got out of there I was immediately relieved.

This has happened every now and then when I go into a place of darkness. I can't sleep with my lights off anymore. I am terrified of going outside at night, especially in wooded areas.

I've looked it up and the phobia is called "Nyctophobia", the fear of the dark. Usually patients with this are not mostly not scared of the dark, but scared of what could be hiding in the dark.

Does anyone else feel like this at all?

lol i had this when i was a kid, in my own house at night, but grew out of it. i fear no one!

only after i find myself staring into my mirror when i wake up from a glorious nap

I always think the government is lurking in the shadows, turns out they are metaphorically but not physically in the end.

i guess if i took the time to psych myself out, and imagine people watching me when im in the dark, i could start to believe it to.

its more of a self control thing. i mean if someone came in here and made a topic about how they love to eat 50 cheese burgers a day and they cant stop doing it. this community would tear him up and never let him forget what a loser he is.

but i guess if people think they are unique and diseased they are immune from that kind of judgement lol.

Ironic, I was just playing a indie game that has the same name.

well im mostly posting this here to see if anyone else has had similar experiences. im just seeing if i might actually have it or if im just crazy lol

if people make fun of me, it's alright.

im saying its all in your head. and not like in an ignorant way. like you just gotta overcome it to deal with it.

hmm. Thats an interesting way to think about it.

Yea , i will try to overcome it. thank you, that helps

like you sit here now and you know there was nothing out there. and you know tonight there will be nothing out there.

but when tonight comes, you will forget that you believe that and you forget how to convince yourself of that logic again.

I've always had this feeling.
I've felt like "you know who that starts with an S ends with a fork" is always teleporting the forget around me.
