At what age should kids be allowed to play M-Rated games?

people act as if you learn about "mature stuff" at age 17-18 but the truth is most kids(if not all) learn about that stuff at age 12-14.

depends on the game, the child's environment, and a variety of other factors

a kid growing up playing Doom or CS turns out much differently from a kid growing up playing CoD or Halo because they're not dirty console casuals

Some M games I'd probably be okay with my children playing at age 14 or 15 (Half Life, Halo, Fallout 1 2 & 3, etc) but with other's I'd definitely wait until they are near to being 18 (Like the good ol' GTA series, although Vice City's not too bad, Manhunt, Mortal Combat, etc), It depends on what the game is.

I played M-Rated games when I was 10. Not saying they should be allowed to play them at age 10 :I

Depends on the game. ~13 for something like half life and ~16 for something like manhunt 2

12 for Half Life, Halo, and TES
13 for Fallout, Just Cause, and Left 4 Dead
14 for TF2, CoD, and CSS
16 at the minimum for GTA and Saint's Row

well rated R is 17.

however th video game rating ESRB thing isnt law related. its a private company that made that stuff up, and retailers just go along with it.
technically the stores dont have to enforce it if they dont want. but i think they play along just for the sake of good PR.

i could start my own rating system. its just as legit lol
