Author Topic: i just finished half-life 1  (Read 2329 times)

so i finished the original half life, i got the whole half-life pack on a steam sale like a few days ago
and just wanna leave some thoughts about the game

first of all the atmosphere feels like stuff
everything just, feels like some sort of fever dream
its not even about the old-style graphics, everything just feels like absolute stuff
firing the grenade launcher is like throwing a potato
the crossbow arrow flies really slow
the storyline is kind of weird and at points confuses me a bit
i know that maybe back in the late 1990's this game might've been the best of its time, but in this time and age i wouldn't really call it appealing imo

i thought it was as fun as hell. the grenade launcher felt like it had a nice kick, and the crossbow bolt is supposed to be slow (hint, it's filled with tranquilizer)

you should try black mesa source

You played Half-Life 2 first, didn't you?

i cant finish this game, its far too boring

no, i thought im supposed to go in chronological order?

Everything you listed sounded like something someone who played Half-Life 2 first would say

no, i thought im supposed to go in chronological order?
he said that because of your crossbow and grenade launcher comments

How'd you find the way to get past the end of Blast Pit? I can't figure out the path I'm supposed to take after I've fired the engine and gone down the pit.

Go down one of the holes the tentacles are lying in (water bit) and swim to the side.

to me the hallmark of a true amazing game is that it ages well- that even as technology speeds past it, its good points still shine. Maybe Half-Life didn't really have that benefit to you

Also get BMS. It's so much better in terms of atmosphere while still retaining the level design.

The game actually really creeps me out lol for some reason. Im really enjoying it.

i first played this game when i was 3, and the part where the head-crab comes out of the ceiling after unforseen consequences freaked me the forget out.
