Author Topic: I can't wait to move out. (Rant warning)  (Read 12637 times)

Honestly, this is getting old. Okay, so my parents started doing this thing around when I was in sixth grade when I got my first laptop. They would shut down the internet at night to make sure I couldn't get on at night. Well, fast forward five years later. I'm almost seventeen, my older brother is nineteen, and they're still trying to do this; even during summer break. I managed to survive through the school-year because my brother purchased his own network and it activated a secondary wireless network I could use that nobody realized existed. So whenever my parents would shut off the internet, I wouldn't go insane like I used to, I'd just switch networks. Honestly, if any of you have been in this situation, you'd have to feel terrible if you had someone to talk to that only got on late at night and your parents shut you off right as they got on (12:00AM for me).

Anyway, summer started, the bullstuff stopped. I've been working a job so I no longer have the time for all-nighters except every once and a while but now for some reason, my parents are (once again) complaining about me not being healthy because of not getting sleep. Well, considering I go to bed at around 1AM every night and get plenty of sleep before work, I can safely call this bullstuff. My brother works the same job I do, so there's no excuse to accuse him of not getting sleep either.

I get up in the mornings and go to work, I come home and do stuff on the internet until it's time for bed. I hardly have any time for anything that doesn't have to do with work; now they're trying to limit me even more! Well, I figured this entire issue with the internet being shut off had finally stopped now that my brother was graduated and I went into online school and became much more responsible and independent. When I protested against my dad's really stupid logic, he told me to find my own house. lol

My argument against that was "If I tried, you wouldn't sign the paperwork to emancipate me." then he proceeded to say, "You'd fall and hit your nose in the dirt." Okay, I work a job, I get paid, I've been saving up money all summer to buy a car for when school rolls around (I have to go to a building on Thursdays and Fridays and it's about 20 minutes away from where I live).

Now, once I clear all of this up with them, their next argument is likely to spew their conspiracy about the internet projecting radio-waves that keeps my mother awake. I have an argument for this but I can't tell him that I've been using a secondary network and my mother slept fine every night because she no longer had it in her head that the internet was the problem. My brother had stopped paying for it because it was stuff, anyway. So I don't have it anymore.

Honestly, if they continue to do this stuff, I'm going to go insane. It's only a little longer before I hit eighteen, though. Just a year and five months.

I'm not trying to sound angsty, but damn.

I've tried. I told them I'd discuss it with them later. I have a feeling my mom will lean in my favor since I've been really responsible with getting to bed and going to work and such lately.

when I read threads like this I wish I could help somehow
hope it all works out

do what your bro did and buy your own network

liek a baus

Best bet is to get your own Verizon wireless USB internet thing.

My mother does the exact same loving thing and im 16. She even shuts down the upstairs power sometimes.

Wow
You guys have richard parents :/

been on that train for what
seven years?
and i get to do it for the next three, i can empathize.

I don't have a cell-phone. All I have is a pre-paid Tracfone.

Yeah, man. I started working as hard as I could to get a job and start saving up for a car just so I could leave when I'm 18 and be prepared. Honestly, it's worth the sacrifice because it saves me the pain of doing it in the future while having a ton of other bills to pay. I'm not really sacrificing much of a childhood, either. lol

That we do. :L

While they may not mean to be richards, their idea of parenting is the oddball of the group.

My parents used to do that as well. It was really loving stupid but then they stopped because it costs a forget-ton to reboot the power like that constantly.

Now, my internet is super loving slow and I don't think plugging and unplugging the wireless hundreds of times is going to be very easy on the router. Pretty sure that it's been damaged by this and that's why I constantly have one bar of internet rather than the three I used to have.

Thanks, man, I wish you could, too. D:

You don't have to have a cell phone, its a USB device all its own.
We used one for a while before a ISP was able to reach up here.

Oh, those thingies. :D

How much do you have to pay monthly for it?

I'm not sure.
Shouldn't be too much.
