Author Topic: "/support"  (Read 7012 times)

Pretty tired of people getting pissed at this, it's not going to change anything guys, sorry.
Actually, I am confident that out of any Drama topic that is asking for people to change, this one has the most potential. No one is asking for someone to change their way of thinking, just to stop using a phrase. In fact, if some major posters adopt the no /support policy, then with a little harassment here and there, everyone will.

So you are saying you are going to try and enforce a no /support policy by harassment?
Good luck with that. I am pretty sure it will just cause more topics like this one where people argue about the matter and it never happens.

Why not just ignore their posts, you aren't forced to choose upon what people say.
No it's not spam either because I seriously doubt people only say in a single word "/support" in every single topic.

People say /support but they also say other things. It's not spam.

It doesn't bother me.
Recognizing the potential of something for success doesn't put me on a side. And "a little harassment here and there" =/= enforce by harassment. If major posters pick it up then a majority of players will follow the trend and the people who are less observant will need to be notified.

That's what I see you saying.
Even if it's not harassment, you aren't the forum police.
Some people don't see an issue with it and others do, I seriously hope you aren't going to contact people via PM or anywhere just to tell them to stop saying /support.
This will not work because it will counter and just revert back to this topic or other topics that will be created on the subject.

I hope people don't get this bummed out that people are lazy on a forum.

Seriously? I have stated several times now that I am not part of the motion to end /support. I really don't mind it. I am stating that it would not be difficult for a group of people to end it though. The harassment required would be to the same extent that we give people who post cookies to give to add-on makers; most people will stop /supporting when it goes out of style, other people will stop as soon as someone tells them that it is not the thing to do, other people will need a few reminders.

The thing is that it is not a "style", it's things that people do because they are lazy.
And no, it would be hard to get people to stop doing it.
Do you honestly believe that others just getting mad at people for /supporting a topic will help them stop? We're talking about an internet forum here.
It will just cause more arguments because people will do it without actually thinking. And because people are stubborn.
It's something people have done for a long time and you can't just say it's easy to train people to stop or whatever.

People need to just stop getting involved and telling others that it's annoying and maybe it won't be such a big issue anymore.

It is as much a fad as it is people being lazy. This is the Blockland Forums, where people will argue for days and post large paragraphs over nothing. We don't have a problem with overcoming being lazy. What happens is that people are lazy and /support is viewed as an acceptable thing to do, so they don't put any more effort in. If /support falls out of popularity and it is no longer viewed as an acceptable thing, then people will put more effort into replying, come up with something new that takes no effort, or just not post. If a group of influential people come together they could pull /support from popularity.

Back when I was just starting out, it was common to see people post cookies in the add-ons section. Most people knew not to overdo it, but it seemed that a lot of people posted a cookie every once and a while. Since that time we have had more new users, but less people posting cookies.

So you are saying you are going to try and enforce it with other people lol

He's speaking clearly hypothetical. He is not stating that it will happen and that he would have any part of it at all. What the heck is your problem. From what I can see you're the one getting clearly annoyed by people that oppose stuff that can't be opposed. Stop trying to oppose the opposing fricken hypocrite.

i hated this stuff the first time i saw it.
it seems like a way for people to just bump their post counts up.

It is clearly not a fad lol.
I don't post it as a fad, I post it because I actually support the topic and it should be common sense why, if not, then I post after I say /support.

The thing is that /support can be viewed as an acceptable thing to do in most cases.
The only case I can see where it's a stupid thing to do is if your only post is "/support", but from most posts I've seen it is /support "paragraph of details"

If a group of influential people come together they could pull /support from popularity.
I've been telling you this, how exactly would you plan on doing that?
If you even tried, people would still argue that it is ok to do with some guidelines.

Ok so now you are trying to refer posting a cookie to posting /support.
The difference is that a cookie is meaningless, it's just a cookie.

He's speaking clearly hypothetical. He is not stating that it will happen and that he would have any part of it at all.
Well I am saying that if it were to happen it most likely wouldn't work. I can still argue that.

What the heck is your problem. From what I can see you're the one getting clearly annoyed by people that oppose stuff that can't be opposed. Stop trying to oppose the opposing fricken hypocrite.
I am annoyed that people find it annoying yes, but how exactly does that make me a hypocrite? "Stop trying to oppose the opposing?" I am just arguing my opinion lol calm down, you seem more annoyed at me for some reason? What did I do to you?

Typical nobot, nothing really out of the ordinary here

What? I can't argue in good o'l drama :U

You're possibly the most stubborn person on these forums, and you never admit when you're wrong no matter what the topic is. 99.9% of people will stop punching a brick wall after a few swings, but you're the exception.

Enjoy your broken knuckles, because all that serves is to invalidate any and everything you say by writing you off as the most stubborn person on the forums
