Author Topic: v22: What should it be?  (Read 5078 times)

What I think the main feature of v22 should be: Better physics for vehicles.
I don't even have to explain how buggy and glitchy vehicle physics currently are. They get stuck in random objects and, if they hit a brick at just the right angle, will get sent into the depths of outer-space.

What are your guys' thoughts?

Pretty sure Badspot already hinted at doing it. [citation needed]

he can 'hint' all he wants

it aint done Bro

Yeah, I fully support this idea.

So annoying in speedkart servers. :P

kompressor did in the official announcement of shaders topic

probably being worked on so give it some time. I think the issue is due to torque engine issues on how it handles vehicles, so they'll have to spend time working around it.
IIRC the problem with vehicles is because the server does movement checks. given a vehicle's speed it predicts the next movement but after predicting it then checks for anything in the way. blocks have issues because if the speed is high enough  the vehicle's predicted position would be beyond the block wall and so doesn't trigger collision. that and the fact that the predictions probably lag a bit relative to everything else in the server.

I've been asking for both of these and I'm pretty sure that many others have as well.

  • More than 5 (or 7?) lights rendering at once. This is soooooo annoying and I don't know how many times it's killed the mood of one of my builds.
  • Less laggy shader implementation
  • More resources for coders including some sort of GUI system or more class availability (like some sort of default physics object or other nice 3D FX)

Oh, and IIRC, Rotondo said he would improve bots so you could have loads of them with less lag if you recreate a scene from LOTR where there's a big castle/keep and there's a huge army outside and it has to be done really well. This was on Badspot's block party before the bot update came out. I'll find a youtube video of the scene if someone seriously considers it.

imo this is most important

It's literally been about almost a year since we have received an actual update that modified the game/engine without it being addon based. Anyone could make a Speedkart/Racing addon, considering the karts themselves were made by an addon maker. I was really suspecting an update this month or last moth, Blockland's rate of development is really slow, I understand its just one or two people working behind scenes but they will need to work harder if they want this game to get better and grow, user-base wise. Just because a game is Greenlit won't exactly guarantee it will dramatically increase the user base, it's not like people will buy anything just because its on Steam, the gameplay needs to be good. Look at the new game CubeWorld for example, it has very good gameplay and is packed with features, it's already very popular and the Alpha was just released a few days ago.

One thing Ive realized though is that Badspot has had to deal with idiot users (hackers) lately which may probably slow development rate down even more.

not really possible to get much better than what we've got right now

I'm curious as to why you think this? Surely there is some more performance they can eek out of the TGE?

Oh my, well, the bot update IMO definitely filled a void where no good add-on ever stood and it was recent. I assume it was more than just an add-on as well (there was some back end coding to improve AI and other such functions with AIPlayers). The speedkart gamemode was sort of a let down for me but Badspot did implement an entire Gamemode system that he'd like to fill with quality gamemodes.

um.
> get Mission Editor

I'm pretty sure he's referring to some system where servers can securely and non-abusively have their own GUI for clients.

I honestly forgot about the bots, at least for myself, I can't even have too many running or else it starts getting laggy, and I have an AMD 7950. Either way that WAS a good update to the game. The Speedkart update I like also but really, all Badspot did was add some code for rounds and to switch maps and packaged it as a gamemode. I'm not saying it was a bad addition but we sort of need better.

I really want some excitment on Blockland again, a new major update could do it

why are you acting like this is a new trend? what do you expect, anyway? do you expect the devs to poof modifications in every other month?
