But the retina display is actually really good. It's like doubling the resolution but not the screen size. Everything gets super crisp and sharp. I don't have an apple computer but I have the iPhone 4 and I love how clear and clean everything looks.
My mom owns an iMac and it's at least twice as large as the monitor I'm on right now, but only 2.5x as many pixels. I'd say that's a marginal improvement at best.

You are an idiot, aren't you?
No, but whoever decides to spend limited school budget resources on overpriced technology is.

but is the IMac retina. Not all apple comps have retina. I don't think that IMacs even have retina yet.

Well, you are talking about my headmaster then.

He's goddamn rich himself. I would have to say that I don't like him much either.

Your school obviously made a deal with apple for every student that is forced to buy a stuffty iproduct, he gets a small cut of the profit. Either your school run for iTards that think they are doing you a huge favor by making you buy an iProduct because they think it is the best, despite the fact that you can get something better for less.

Also what's with schools making their students buy laptops? My schools that I went to never made us use laptops nor used them.

isnt imac really old? like, really old?
Uh, no. I use one, it's from like 2009. It runs great. Runs all my apps with no lag. Except for L4D2 sometimes has lag

What happens if you tell them you aren't able to buy one?

My school hired a group of "professional" Apple employee to help us with our technical difficulties.
When we ask them for help, either they are playing League of Legends or Call of Duty among themselves.

Trust me, they never help us.

Good question. I don't know.

A MacBook pro or air is included in your admission fee, so I never saw any problems like that. Probably you wouldn't get accepted into the school or you can borrow one of their beat up ones until you can pay.

I think there is a limit on the days you can borrow it.

Ok, here's how it is. An iMac (which I have, by the way) is a good computer; don't let people tell you otherwise. However, if it's for school, do you really want to have a desktop? Also, tip: DON'T BUY NEW! Go to a resale computer store (there are even some Apple specific ones), or buy refurbished. You can get hundreds off that way. And while you could build a hackintosh, I wouldn't suggest it, because if you have certain problems with it, you'll have limited support options. Anyway, above all, the iMac is a good computer, but it isn't portable, by all means.

It's also very pretty. ;)

EDIT: Also, don't pay attention to the polls. Many people will vote no just because they use Windows and are biased towards it. Only a selective few on the BLF will actually give you their unbiased opinion.

buy refurbished.
This.

I used a barely used apple laptop a few weeks ago. My grandma never uses it so when I had to go do some itunes stuff on it, I was amazed. It was so fast, it ran awesome, and it looked very pretty. I love Apple comps.

Once again, 'retina display' is a buzzword for a monitor. My mom's computer has a slightly higher pixel density than mine. I checked wikipedia and it has the same resolution and pixel density as other 'retina displays'.

Hey, forget you man. I voted 'No' because Apple computers are horribly overpriced and there's no reason to buy expensive hardware if you're going to be using a computer for school. Stop putting words in my mouth, stuffpiece.

My school hired a group of "professional" Apple employee to help us with our technical difficulties.
Can I have the name of your school? Since obviously they are severely misappropriating their budget...

Actually, they're so-called "retina displays" are actually visibly noticeable from the othe displays they offer (and quite frankly, better than many computers I've seen to day that are Windows). Have you actually used them long term and compared them first hand? Don't say stuff based on what you found online; go by real world info. Of course, I'm also saying this online, but you get my point...

Hehe... I know they're overpriced. That's why I said buy used or refurbished. But his question was, "Is it a good computer?", not, "Is it overpriced?" I wasn't talking about the price when I said that.

Have you actually used them long term and compared them first hand? Don't say stuff based on what you found online; go by real world info.
This is absolutely ridiculous because numbers are not subject to distortion and experiences are. Basing a rating on a computer display from personal experience is the worst way to do it. The "technology," even as defined by Steve Jobs, is just a high pixel density. Another monitor with the same pixel density would be identical in that aspect. The numbers you find online are the real world info.

Never said the numbers lie; I just mean that you shouldn't believe unfounded claims without experience/knowledge on the subject. Sure, if the company makes a claim, by all means believe it (until proven otherwise); but if someone denounces that claim without proper evidence or reasoning, especially if I have real-world experience backing me up, I have no reason to believe the claim to be true. That's all I meant when I said that. Sorry if that confused anybody...
