Yeah, me and a few friends are looking to play a good mmorpg, we have two requirements

Mine: Good Combat System, Third Person, not gender locked, not race locked.

Theirs: Something to do thats not combat farming, fishing mining, etc and they have to be able to level up said skills

We can't really find any, we need you guys to.

Have your friends ever played an MMORPG before?

Runescape classic? although it's a bit of a pain to play that, it's still got most of what you want.

Not very often. I played them a stuff-ton. I'm telling them they might not get what they want

Cube World? Not sure if that fits your criteria, exactly. Missed the "free" part, never mind.

If it wasn't locked behind membership the Old School Runescape would do the trick. According to some the EoC is unbalanced.

I'm pretty sure such a game doesn't exist.

It's extremely stupid, but I'm fairly confident considering if I knew about it I'd probably be playing it and am constantly on the look out for such a thing.

For some reason (I assume money) devs tend to take SOME things that are great in mmos, add their own spin and call it new.

I don't think there's even a decent p2p game that truly meets these requirements.

I'm really looking forward to this game assuming it gets done the way they plan (I never count on things like this, it sounds too good to be true.)

A good bet would be Mabinogi, but the customer service and community is typically pretty stuff.  Diverse combat system, skill-based combat rather than equipment-based unless you end up pay-to-win, very few skills are race-locked (there are still some differences between the three races but they hardly ever matter), equipment is usually gender-locked but there isn't really any female- or male-only item you'll change your character's gender for, and there are plenty of life skills to work with (smithing, tailoring, etc).

I haven't really played enough MMOs to name any others that even remotely meet your requirements.

vindictus or monster hunter frontier
