Also so i don't need a cooler? im not overclocking at the moment so i don't know if i need a k series or not
It's better to pick up the k series just in case you ever decided to OC, also stick with either nvidia/intel or amd/amd for the GPU/CPU combinations, they tend to work better together.

You won't need a cooler RIGHT now if you don't plan on OC'ing straight away, but I would advise one before you do.

Pretty sure that's not correct.

Also yes get a cooler now, even without overclocking, during gaming the i7-3770k can get pretty hot on a stock cooler. Not to mention that it makes more noise.

Pretty sure it is, I've used both combinations and I've used mismatched ones as well, the ones I suggested do indeed work better together, especially AMD/AMD

And no, he doesn't need one, the stock cooler on the i7-3770 is perfectly fine, it runs quiet and cool, there's no need to put money into one

That is not correct. And is merely a marketing tool used by those companies. It has never been proven that matching Brand GPU and CPUs run better together.

Nvidia and AMD have contracted many many manufacturers and to say that that the brands work together is like saying that matching brand alkaline batteries work better together.

I have that CPU and it works perfectly :D very good...

Get some other ram, 3 x 2gb wtf is that
Get either 16gb or 8gb

I strongly believe that I am correct, as I've tested things fairly thoroughly myself, but it might be other factors.

I won't argue the point any further

You can go down to an i5-3570k if you want to. Still one of the very top CPU's.
i can advise this as well if you are concerned about price

Noone is going to point out the fact he has an open case 5400 RPM hard drive as his only storage device?  Really?

You all realize after he fills that thing half way and day to day usage kicks in, that thing is going to take 4 hours to search the entire C:/ index

Swap it out for a lower storage 7200 RPM hdd or get an SSD to run Windows and other important programs on, alongside the HDD
stuff, good call.  definitely go for a 7200 RPM HDD at least, or even get a small 64-128GB SSD along with an HDD for Windows with the money you save on an i5.

Also so i don't need a cooler? im not overclocking at the moment so i don't know if i need a k series or not
not really.  i have an i7-930 (first generation Core i7) overclocked from 2.8 GHz to 3.2 GHz and it's fine.  if you overclock more than 0.4 GHz or you have a hot environment, get a cooler.

while the latter is true, i've seen nothing but trouble from intel CPUs + amd/ati GPUs.  laptops, desktops, custom builds, every time it's intel/amd i've seen problems.  amd and nvidia however seem to be alright as far as i have seen.

Do you have a Micro Center near you? I saved almost $70 on my motherboard and cpu compared to newegg, I got an i5 3570K for $189.99 and I bundled it with an ASRock extreme4 motherboard for $40 off of that. It's only on in-store pickup though unfortunately.

I've had an Intel CPU/AMD GPU rig since last December and I've yet to experience any trouble relating to either.

custom builds tend to have better luck but i've still seen hiccups and roadbumps along that setup

Well can't argue because I didn't do tests myself.

Sure on normal use it runs fine, but stressing it like benchmarks and hardcore gaming it can get pretty hot. A cooler is just playing it safe.

would you suggest one of those easy-setup water cooling kits?

would you suggest one of those easy-setup water cooling kits?

I would just suggest a buffy cooler. Like a Hyper 212 Evo. Nothing too expensive or over the top. I mean if he isn't going to overclock to like 4.5+GHz then he shouldn't need water cooling.

I didn't read this thread, so I'm sure someone has already said these things

CPU is overpowered, unless you really want those hyperthreaded cores for video encoding/rendering you should get an i5-3570k
Don't cheap out on the ram, get 8gb of at least 1600mhz
Don't cheap out on the hard drive, just spend the $95 dollars for a caviar black 1TB. It's well worth it, much faster read/write
Don't cheap out on the PSU, even though you haven't added it to the partpicker. This is just a precautionary suggestion
If you want to overclock, I would recommend the hyper 212 evo. It's only $35 and it would allow you to boost your cpu clock speeds a good bit without sacrificing any temperature
Post threads like this in the computer megathread. Everyone in there wants to help you, especially because you have an unfinished build with a few errors (we love finding errors)

would fry's also be a good place to buy them?

- = already did it, and the i already did post it in the computer megathread awhile back though it didn't get alot of attention.
