How long until hosting time today? Or no clue?
I'm not sure. It will be up in the next couple of hours though. I'll make a post when I start hosting.

Alright, the server is up right now.

The server has been up for about 3 hours now and I have gotten about 12 people over that time period. The most I had at once was 4 people.

I guess nobody really likes capture the flag.

Just sitting here......waiting....

I would be there if I could join. I've had a problem with a bunch of servers appearing dead when other people can actually join them.

I've also noticed that most of the servers that maintain highest player count are servers that I can join, so it is likely that other people are having the same problem as me. In that case, there are probably other people like you that miss out on a lot of potential joiners.

As far as a solution goes, I only have one idea. If you play on Xbox live, you have probably heard of strict NAT type, which if you have enabled, restricts you from joining some servers. However, there is a way to change it to open NAT type. Maybe there is a way to do this for blockland.

I don't think this is the case because when I host my Mafia Madness server, I get a lot of people and nobody ever complains about not being able to join for whatever reason (except the player limit being reached).

I think I don't get that many people because nobody really tries out new servers nowadays. I know lots of people who get on Blockland and go straight to a knife TDM or a jail rp or another server that is always up.

i think the problem is the map. as a build, it is nice - the style and proportions fit a dm well. i feel the layout is the weak link, for a ctf map and team deathmatches in general. maybe you have changed it or maybe i saw it wrong, but all i saw were rooms next to each other in a grid pattern.. not a very fun one. every route you take is the same as the rest.

basically i felt that the map lacked variety and is too bland to keep players around

this is a personal opinion of course, and i doubt many people share it, but hk weapons SUCK (i love khain and all but MAN raycasting stinks)

I can see where you would think it's a "grid pattern" from the pictures, but it's not. You have to be in the server to see the whole build and its layout. I guess I didn't take very good pictures.

Explain this. I was JUST about to post this and I saw your reply:

Ok, no offense to the people hosting this, but:

These guys got over 24 people and to be honest, I thought the server was complete crap. The build honestly looked like it took about 30 minutes to build. The map consisted of giant walls made of baseplate blocks and two bases that were poorly built and boxy. You did more traveling than fighting because the bases were so far apart and the weapons were terribly unbalanced. Half the time, people just sat at their base and shot at their teammates. Meanwhile, the admins talked in giant text that covered half the page and kicked people who muted them/complained about it.

They got over 20 players in about 30-45 minutes of starting it. My question is, how can this server get over 24 players and I can't get over 4? They are still at the top of the join server list. Again, good for the people hosting this, for having a popular server. But how? I cannot comprehend.....

it's nothing new that people like stuffty servers, this has been a running trend ever since the knife tdm bullstuff started a year or so back
i've been working on two somewhat big projects to usurp such crap, but it's probably going to be a while before anything concrete is ready

It sickens me to see this happening. I find myself joining several servers near the top of the server list and asking "this is it?".

I cannot understand, I cannot comprehend how these servers attract so many people by doing nothing. Some of the builds look like they took 30 minutes to make.

It disgusts me how the people who put the most effort into their servers get the least player turnout.

The same server mentioned above now has about 30 players. "How?", I don't know.

This is the server: http://forum.blockland.us/index.php?topic=238711.0

while the crappy server you just showed is definitely low quality, any dm with vehicles has a certain allure that less mature players like (me included)

it wasnt the pictures i was looking at; i came to your server and i felt there was a very defined grid layout to it - with variations. it may very well not be a grid, but thats what i found it to be after playing a good 10 minutes. sure, it had stairs and pits, it had some alcoves and side rooms, but it felt very straight forward and flat

it is not a build that makes a deathmatch fun, its the gameplay it delivers. some of the most fun i have ever had on blockland were from some of the worst servers ive joined. the host had no idea what he/she was doing, but interactions with the other players kept the game interesting and exciting

I've decided that it's the guns that people don't like, even though there is absolutely nothing wrong with them.

Almost every time someone joins they mention how the guns suck and how they are "inaccurate". Or they say it's not fair (because they keep dying) even though everything is completely fair. After they say how the guns suck and how it's unfair to them, they whine a bit more and then leave.

People need to understand that it's NOT the weapons that are bad. THEY are bad.

I guess people expect their guns to work like they want them to, all the time. People need to learn that not all weapons in BL are going to be the same, they will have to adapt to new things.

The bullet physics in blockland can be very difficult to cope with for players who are used to other fps games.
