Author Topic: Best way to fully customize a school laptop that has limits?  (Read 2172 times)

I want my laptop software to be my own personal thing. Harsh problem is most things that involve the control panel are restricted. That means I currently cannot change the crappy Windows Classic theme to something that looks like Windows 7.

I have Chrome, Picasa, and all of those glory things.

My main reason to wanting this is because I want to defy there attempt of making every kids laptop the same, un-unique boldness of the Windows Classic theme that looks like Windows 2000.

Please, help me o'forum.
I also may accept hacky things that I can point and say, "I turned it on one day and it just looked like that (:"

Make it my own laptop, per-say.

What's wrong with the Windows Classic theme? It's hell of a lot more clean than every other Windows theme to date.

Find a way to open up command prompt.
Then disable that stupid restriction program.

The restrictions are actually reg-edits.

They also learned about the godmode trick. You cannot open the hard drive files.

Frankie, this one in that article you gave me caught my eye:
Customization
Many companies or schools are quite dull and want everybody's accounts to look alike. My school was like this and refused to allow you to change your desktop wallpaper or select a screensaver. However, what they didn't notice was that by selecting the "Windows Classic" theme you could choose to change the colors of every aspect of your system other than the desktop background or screensaver. I think that my class was much more interesting after I had taught everybody how to do this and after one person (not me, I'd never do anything wrong, honest!) changed the boring old IT technician's entire computer, including the text, to bright pink so it stood out from a mile away (slightly ironic, since the technician was the person who decided we all had to have identical desktops).

What does he mean? How does he do this?

just reinstall the damn OS don't be a pusillanimous individual

Damn it Mod I don't want to do that and get my ass is deep trouble D:

I am the nicest, disciplined student in the whole goddamn school >:(

Hey guys.
You know when you go to the computer folder.
And press Uninstall and Change Programs.

I pressed that, and guess what?

Heh.

Of course I am going to be responsible and report this flaw.

There are Linux programs that will rip all of the passwords off of a machine. You can just put it on a dvd or something and then get yourself administrative powers.
